Mobile Bay is bull red country. Dixey Bar at the mouth of the bay is one of the most famous oversize redfish spots in the country from September into November. Slot fish work the causeway rips, shell banks, and shoreline drains the rest of the year.
Redfish are the year-round anchor here: slot fish on the flats, edges, and dock lines through the warm months, schooled in deep holes in winter, and oversize bulls staging near the passes each fall. Fish the moving tide and the current seams; the stage matters less than the movement.
During the September–November spawn run, oversize redfish stage around the nearest pass and bar system to Mobile Bay. Fish heavy jigs, big paddletails, or fresh cut bait on the moving tide, and release the big spawners quickly.
