Information stored on your device
Gulf Coast Bite stores your selected fishing location, your analytics choice, and any days you save in Float Plan in your browser’s local storage, so the site opens where you left it and your saved days are still there next time. Those values stay on your device and are not sent to Gulf Coast Bite. Clearing browser data removes them. If you allow analytics, Google Analytics also sets its own first-party cookies, described below.
Shared catches (optional)
If you check “Share to the public catch board” when logging a catch, the details you submit—species, length, the water or area you choose to show, your display name, note, photo, and that day’s conditions—are transmitted to Gulf Coast Bite, stored with its hosting provider (Netlify), and displayed publicly on this site. Only catches you explicitly opt in to share are transmitted. Choose your location setting deliberately and do not include personal or sensitive information in shared names, notes, or photos. The board keeps a limited number of recent entries, and photos are deleted when an entry is removed. To request removal of a shared catch, email hello@gulfcoastbite.com.
Analytics and measurement
Gulf Coast Bite measures how its pages are used, and that measurement runs on every page of the site.
Unless you allow analytics, it runs without cookies. Google Analytics receives which page you viewed, the actions you took on it, such as which water you opened or that you built a float plan, general browser and device characteristics, and approximate geography derived from your IP address. Nothing is stored on your device for this purpose and no identifier follows you between visits.
If you select “Allow analytics,” two further things happen. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies, which let it recognise the same browser across visits. The Meta pixel loads and reports your visit to Meta, which Meta may use to measure and target Gulf Coast Bite’s own advertising. The Meta pixel never loads unless you allow analytics. Gulf Coast Bite disables Google advertising personalization and Google Signals in its site configuration.
You may choose “Essential only” at any time, or reopen “Privacy choices” in the site footer. Google and Meta handle the information they receive under their own policies.
Gulf Coast Bite does not sell personal information.
Email updates
If you sign up for the weekly email, the address you enter and the water you choose are sent to MailerLite, which stores the list and delivers the messages on Gulf Coast Bite’s behalf. Your address is used to send the weekly conditions email and nothing else. It is not sold or shared with advertisers. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list; you can also email the address at the top of this notice to be removed.
Hosting and technical logs
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like most hosting providers, Netlify may process request details such as IP address, browser information, requested page, timestamp, and security diagnostics to deliver and protect the site. These records are handled under Netlify’s policies and retention practices.
Information you choose to send
If you contact an advertising or privacy email address, the message and contact details you provide are processed to answer your inquiry and retained only as reasonably needed for that purpose, business records, or legal obligations.
External services and links
The site retrieves public conditions from NOAA and the National Weather Service and links to Google Maps, tackle-shop websites, email applications, and other third-party destinations. Those services may collect information under their own privacy policies when you interact with them.
Location and sensitive information
Gulf Coast Bite does not request precise device location. The region buttons select general fishing areas and do not reveal where you are. Please avoid placing sensitive personal information in catch notes, since shared catches are displayed publicly.
Children
The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Gulf Coast Bite does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
- Choose “Essential only” to keep measurement cookieless and stop the Meta pixel from loading.
- Clear the site’s local browser data to remove your saved water and saved Float Plan days.
- Use browser cookie controls or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Unsubscribe from the weekly email using the link in any message.
- Email us to have a shared catch taken off the board.
- Contact us with a privacy question or request concerning information you sent directly.
Changes to this notice
This notice may change as the site adds features, advertising, accounts, or data services. Material changes will be reflected by a revised date and, when appropriate, an additional notice on the site.
